Yesterday, my wife and I had lunch at Yards Park in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood of Southeast Washington, DC.
Yards Park is a spectacular part of the riverfront area. I love the scenic views of the Anacostia River, the charming boardwalk, modern sky bridge, serene water fountain and shallow pool, the sprawling green grass, and the numerous sitting areas and spots for recreation and performances.
The Capitol Riverfront neighborhood is a mixed use area with retail space, condos, apartments, and office buildings. Some of the commercial establishments there include Vida Fitness, Philz Coffee (just opened yesterday), Kruba Thai and Sushi, Ice Cream Jubilee, Potbelly’s (that’s where my wife and I ate lunch yesterday), Nando’s Peri Peri, TaKorean, Willie’s Brew and Que, Agua 301, Osteria Morini, and Whaley’s (which opens in a couple of days).
The location of the park area is amazing. Yards Park is near the U.S. Capitol, is adjacent to the Nationals Park stadium and the Navy Yard Metro Station, it’s within walking distance to attractions at the National Mall, and it is not far from downtown DC.
I am not surprised that the number of people living in the Capitol Riverfront area is expected to grow.
As The Washington Post reported at the beginning of this year, The Yards neighborhood could one day have the most dense population in the District.
Meanwhile, the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood will be a great place to hangout this summer. There will be a lot of interesting events this summer at Yards Park and Canal Park (a nearby Capitol Riverfront park).
Every Friday night from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, there will be a concert at Yards Park. The concert series begins on May 20, 2016, and the last concert will be on September 2, 2016. In addition, movies will be shown outdoors at Canal Park at sundown on Thursdays. The movie series begins on June 2, 2016, and it ends on August 25, 2015.
My wife and I want to hang out a bit this summer at Yards Park. I am looking forward to going back soon.
